  • From Science to Learning: How Lab Expertise Shapes Better Training

Designing training for laboratory and healthcare environments isn’t the same as designing corporate eLearning. The stakes are different, the regulatory context is different, and the learners are different. Getting it right requires more than good instructional design it requires genuine domain knowledge.

    The Problem With Generic Training

Off-the-shelf compliance training can cover the broad strokes of topics like data integrity or lab safety. What it can’t do is reflect the specific workflows, equipment, culture, and regulatory requirements of your organisation. For NHS trusts, pharmaceutical teams, and biotech firms, generic training creates gaps — and in regulated environments, gaps have consequences.

    Why Domain Expertise Matters

A learning designer who understands GLP, GMP, and GCP doesn’t just know the acronyms they understand how those standards translate into daily practice, where the common failure points are, and how to design assessments that test genuine competence rather than surface recall. That expertise shapes everything from the scenario design to the language used in the content.

    Compliance Without Compromise

Regulated sectors need training that is both engaging and audit-ready. These aren’t competing goals, but they do require deliberate design. Content needs to meet regulatory standards, produce reportable outcomes, and still be something people actually complete willingly. That balance is achievable — but it requires a designer who understands both the regulatory landscape and the learner experience.

The best training for complex, regulated environments is built by people who understand what’s at stake — not just how to build a module.
